Guitar Rhythm and Melody

You do not have to be a musical prodigy like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Ludwig Van Beethoven to learn how to play the guitar. The guitar is perhaps the easiest and most user-friendly musical instrument ever invented. You do not need the knowledge about reading musical notes.

The very basic skill needed in playing guitar is right timing. Guitar can be played both as an accompaniment or lead instrument. Basic guitar playing is all about rhythm and beat. Rhythm and beat are expressed in the strumming of the guitar strings. Melody, on the other hand, is expressed by the individual plucking of guitar strings. Melody playing is more musically distinctive when heard. More complicated melody playing requires note reading. However, basic guitar simply require knowledge of the chord positions.

Chord positions are easy to learn. Guitar chords are usually illustrated as dots. The dots on guitar strings diagrams represent the finger position of the player. Standard guitar is right-handed, i.e., the strings are stroked using the right hand while the left fingers press on the strings to create the varying chord positions. Hence, it is hard for a left-handed person to learn how to play a standard guitar. It would require customization of the guitar for it to be played by a left-handed person.

Beginners in guitar playing need good hearing and good eye vision. To save money and still get the best result, it would be more advisable to have a self study regarding basic guitar chords rather than hire an instructor. You may also consult friends who are already well-versed in guitar playing. Guitar playing is easy to learn if you have enough patience.
