Playing the guitar can take some time to adjust to, especially on your fingers. Taking some warm-up exercises can reduce the pain and discomfort you will feel during and after playing the guitar.
How to do guitar warm-up exercises
Warming up in preparation for practices or performances are important. Just like runners, they usually start warming up before running and cooling down after. You can start your warm-up by stretching your wrists, hands and fingers. You can also try looking for some tabs that you can first warm-up on before proceeding to complex tabs. There are a lot of possibilities but try to take them one at a time and don’t cram it all in one day or one week. Take it one step at a time.
Finger and hand coordination exercises for guitar players
An important skill in guitar playing is the finger and hand coordination. What better more thing to do is to exercise them for a better playing time at the guitar. You can try looking or making your tabs of exercises to enhance your hands flexibility, strength and endurance in playing the guitar. Without finger and hand coordination, the sound of you playing the guitar can be choppy and disjointed.
Always remember the importance of warm-up and exercises so that one day you’ll be a master guitarist.

Playing the guitar is a simple and an easy thing to learn. It just takes some patience and an ear tuned to music. As with all skills, you will need to practice it to enhance it.
Guitar tip: developing speed and coordination skills
To develop your skills in playing the guitar, you must first have the time and effort to learn it. The most important thing in learning to play the guitar is to have one. You will never be able to apply what you read or learn from books if you don’t have a guitar to tinker with. To develop your skills in speed and coordination, you can always try playing a single song first. Try playing it over and over again until you get the hang of it. By using the guitar every time, you can then master how the cords are played and with less effort and time to do it.
Guitar lesson: learning different musical styles
It is important to note that learning different musical styles will be of great help in your quest to learn the guitar. Learning different styles like the blues or classical musical styles can enhance your skills in playing the guitar. Even if you don’t like a particular musical style, it is still important that you learn it. It may be difficult at first but in the end you will notice the big help it has done to your guitar skills.
Learning the guitar will take some time but your patience is the key to your success.

Just to see how fingers fiddle with the strings, you'll be both amazed and intimidated as a beginner. But don't gaze too far. Start slow, just push little by little. Not all guitar enthusiasts are gifted with instinctive skills. If you're a fan of American Football, see it their way. Emulate the philosophy of the game. There's no easy touchdown. Inch by inch you fight for the yard, and there are a lot of obstacles along the way. But keep looking for that crack, for another route to the finish.
Quarterbacks first analyze the brawny human hurdles before they pitch the ball on air. With the same strategy, analyze the formulas than to memorize a lot of chords, arpeggio, and scales. Understanding the formulas will help you devise various finger patterns.
In analyzing the opponent, the quarterback and his team learns to devise a strategy or scheme for setting up the field play. The same way, master a lot of approaches. The great musicians in the world are famous for this style and sound.
Practice by writing songs by learning how to read music lines or notes. Anyone who can pull off with the music sheets can acquire fluidity and the discipline for his own craft. Listen to every melody and rhythm you create. Identify the pitfalls with a good ear and from there can play beautiful music with your own guitar instrument.
Like in football, power doesn't win it all. You have to wade through work, determination and agility. For a victorious touchdown, you have to play with the team. In guitars, you put your soul into the melody and before you know it you're fiddling like a master.

Sure there are many online materials and printed manuals that can teach you to play guitars. You have friends who seem to have been born with guitars on their hands and have taught you quit a few neat tricks. But I speak from experience. If you're serious about your music, ask about guitar teachers. No, they're not licensed professionals but they are experienced in teaching and imparting guitar know-how. They can cost more than your favorite music software but unlike the software, they will spend time listening to you play. They'll correct your mistakes, and teach you proper techniques. Do not protest, because like you, I thought that having a teacher will just cramp my style, but surprisingly, he lead me to develop my style more and refine it.
Finding a teacher does not entail grabbing the first hard-core guitarist you saw. During my beginning days, I chose based on three factors: professional experience, teaching methods, and the type of music he plays most. The longer his teaching experience, the wider audience he has reached, and the better improved his teaching style will be. With regards to teaching methods, I ask if he conducts large classes or private lessons. Private lessons are preferable, but cost more. Although these teachers teach varieties of music, pick one that is attuned to the genre of music you're interested in. As an experienced guitarist, I'll remind you that a true teacher won't tell you to do what feels right to you. After all, if playing a guitar means just playing according to your rules, you won't need a teacher. But playing guitars is more than that; they require technique as much as feeling.

When I was still learning to play the guitar, I have everything a first-time guitar player could ever want (a shiny new guitar, a guitar song book, and a Guitar 101 guide) except for one thing-- patience. At first, I was really all over the idea of learning to play the instrument. But as time went on, my enthusiasm slowly wore off. Maybe because of the calluses that I got from constant playing or maybe because the tune I was playing remotely sounds like the tune I downloaded via fast broadband connection. If it weren't for my granddad who was an expert guitar player, I wouldn't have continued learning how to play. Thanks to his cajoling and effective guitar tips, I was able to learn guitar playing in no time.
The first thing you should keep in mind when you really want to learn is regular practice. Practice makes perfect, so they say. The more frequently you practice, the better player you'll become. You should allot at least an hour a day for practicing. Make a practice schedule and try hard to abide by it. The point is to familiarize yourself with the guitar and learn the techniques step by step. Avoid rushing! You might be attracted to play a song with complex guitar chords, but far from boosting your zeal, it just might dissuade you. That is one thing also-- don't get discouraged! Even if you already have aching blisters in your fingers, just go on. All you need is a break from the tedious playing. While taking a break, get inspiration through listening to your favorite music band playing.
Also important in playing guitar is observing proper posture. I used to get a lot of neck strains and back pains when I was just learning to play. It was before my granddad corrected my posture that I stopped having them. Replace the guitar strings, too, as strings are essential in producing excellent sounds. Once you've mastered the guitar basics, you can move to experimenting with different playing techniques. Guitar playing isn't a speedy process. With persistence, who knows? You might even become as good as Carlos Santana.

Downloading MP3 music is sometimes very frustrating, especially when you do not have a fast internet access. Although digital music is free, the sound quality is sometimes defective. There are also instances where a downloaded music is fragmented. Some sections are missing. Sometimes, it is still more convenient to buy CDs instead of relying to downloadable music.
I personally prefer listening to CD music than listening to great MP3 music. I like listening to live music performance, especially if I am the one performing. Although I have not yet tried performing in front of a live audience, I think that I am skillful enough in singing and playing the guitar. One basic skill that a novice guitar player has to learn is right timing.
The best way of getting the right timing is to sing while you play. Your voice will be the guide in strumming the guitar. Since basic guitar playing requires only chord reading, you can only play according to rhythm. Varying your timing will also vary the rhythm, which may not correspond to the melody of the song. It works both ways. You do not need a fast internet to download songs from the web.

What is common between traditional bullfighting event and guitar playing? Well, both of these originated from Spain. Traditionally, guitar playing is one of the courtship ritual methods of Spanish men for getting the attention of the ladies. Although guitar playing has evolved, some basic techniques are has not changed. Beginners can easily learn how to play the guitar by being familiar with some fundamental chords.
There are two main categories of guitar chords. The first category is fixed chords and the second category is movable chords. The movable chords can be modified to crate broken chords.
Using broken chords is a more advanced technique in guitar playing. Broken chords are more melodically distinctive, just like in some musical pieces. The fundamental guitar chords are the major chords designated as C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. These chords can be played as minor chords designated by Cm, Dm, Em, Gm, Am, and Bm. Chords can also be designated as either flat chords or sharp chords by placing sharp and flat symbols after the letter. The sound of a minor chord is radically different from a major chord. Other variations of chord patterns are major seven, augmented fifth, and minor sixth.

The historical root of the guitar is the land popularly known for the traditional bullfighting event, Spain. Guitar history cannot be traced back further than the 15th century. The guitar is believed to be invented by the people of Malaga.
The early guitar was a “four course” instrument. It never enjoyed popularity or respect during the Renaissance period. However, it had been a favorite instrument among rural Spanish men in their courtship rituals.
Guitar playing today is now considered at par with other classical instruments such as the violin. The big difference is that guitars can be played using basic chords. The first thing you have to learn before you can actually play the guitar is the name of all the strings. The guitar has six strings, arranged from the thickest to the thinnest. There are three bass strings and also three treble strings. The guitar strings are named after the six notes of the first octave of the major scale. The bass strings are the following: E, A, and D. On the other hand, the treble strings are the following: G, B, and E.

Have you ever experienced the feeling that although you have played the guitar for quite a long time you still need to grow or advance as a player? Why? The reason is simple: as humans we always desire to become the best. We do not content ourselves on the achievements that we already have. This is why a lot of experienced players in one way or another find ways to enhance their craft and discover their new potentials.
Learning new techniques in playing the guitar can certainly help you gain growth as one skilled guitar player. People who played the guitar for some time, enroll themselves in guitar lessons to discover new techniques which may deal with improving their finger picking, building their speed, or just try to be like their guitar idols.
Each one of us has an opportunity for growth. Beginners should not frustrate themselves and remain as beginners. On the other hand guitar pros should also develop the attitude to necessary for them to move on a better level. When guitar players improve their craft they not only add up confidence in their playing but also are motivated to grow as an artist, as an excellent musician.

The guitar has several advantages over other musical instruments. Unlike a piano, a guitar is perfectly portable. You may bring your guitar in you leisure travels. Guitars are very lightweight that they can be carried using only one hand. You cannot do the same with a piano. Learning how to play a guitar is also relatively easier. You do not need musical sheets with complicated music arrangements. All you need is to memorize some basic guitar chords and you can already play music. Hence, guitar can be considered as user-friendly.
Most male teenagers try to learn how to play the guitar to impress their friends and prospective sweethearts. Playing guitar music is also an ideal icebreaker during date awkward moments. If you are in a group date or picnic, guitar playing can be both entertaining and rewarding.
If you are a beginner, you may first have to memorize some of the basic guitar chords. It is also helpful to have familiar song lyrics with guitar chord notations. You may learn playing guitar even without the help of an instructor. All you have to do is follow the guitar chord notations and try to get the right timing of the rhythm.

Music is one of the most beautiful creations of human beings. Music is the combination of artistic creativity and mathematical precision. Succession and duration of musical notes can be precisely represented as notations or symbols that have specific mathematical value. Music is about the proportion and relationship of these mathematical values. The best harmony is achieved if these mathematical values properly work together. Creating music is similar to creating computer programs; order and organization are required. Creating music is also comparable to arranging flowers; aesthetic sense is very important.
Some people may perceive that learning music is difficult. However, this is not totally true. Although music may require precision, there are still musical instruments that can be played even by amateurs or beginners. Guitar is one particular instrument that can easily be played even if you do not know how to read musical notes.
You do not need to be a virtuoso or a musical prodigy to learn the basics of guitar playing. All you need to master is the finger chord positions. Rhythm and melody can be produced by strumming and plucking the guitar strings.

I'm sure you've seen bands play live performances, who hasn't? Well, I'm a big fan of live band performances and sometimes, I get annoyed when they take too long to fix their instruments. Don't you just hate it when guitar players tune their guitars on-stage? It's really irritating for the viewers. Most especially for those who are near the stage area. The ultimate achievement for a guitar player is to play good music on-stage. So, this means that if it's a first for you, you better know the no-nos.
As I've said, tuning your instruments on-stage is a major no-no. Why wouldn't it be? Who wants to hear a "cacophony" of unprepared musical instruments? If you're playing the electric guitar, then you should never tune your guitar on-stage. If you do that, there's a big chance that half of the people near the stage might temporarily lose their hearing. You wouldn't want them to instantly hate you when you haven't even played yet. What you should do is to use a guitar "tuner". This would be of great help, since you can't really decipher your guitar's sound through the amplifiers.
Another thing is that when you're already playing try to blend your sound with the other musical instruments. Playing good music needs harmony and blending with other great instruments. Being selfish on-stage won't help you create good music. So, once you're all set, you can start wooing your future fans! You'll never know, your first performance could be your ticket to fame!

You do not have to be a musical prodigy like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Ludwig Van Beethoven to learn how to play the guitar. The guitar is perhaps the easiest and most user-friendly musical instrument ever invented. You do not need the knowledge about reading musical notes.
The very basic skill needed in playing guitar is right timing. Guitar can be played both as an accompaniment or lead instrument. Basic guitar playing is all about rhythm and beat. Rhythm and beat are expressed in the strumming of the guitar strings. Melody, on the other hand, is expressed by the individual plucking of guitar strings. Melody playing is more musically distinctive when heard. More complicated melody playing requires note reading. However, basic guitar simply require knowledge of the chord positions.
Chord positions are easy to learn. Guitar chords are usually illustrated as dots. The dots on guitar strings diagrams represent the finger position of the player. Standard guitar is right-handed, i.e., the strings are stroked using the right hand while the left fingers press on the strings to create the varying chord positions. Hence, it is hard for a left-handed person to learn how to play a standard guitar. It would require customization of the guitar for it to be played by a left-handed person.
Beginners in guitar playing need good hearing and good eye vision. To save money and still get the best result, it would be more advisable to have a self study regarding basic guitar chords rather than hire an instructor. You may also consult friends who are already well-versed in guitar playing. Guitar playing is easy to learn if you have enough patience.

Researchers have proven that the best way to make students learn is to teach through the use of visual aids. As a student of the guitar, it is suggested that you get a hold of video instructions about guitar playing.
Visit your local record store and get a copy of guitar playing instructions on video. They have text instructions as well as examples on how to follow the guide. You can imitate the guide in the video and soon, you will be able to learn how to play the guitar.
If you want to become the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Santana or Eric Clapton, then purchase their concert DVDs. Most shots at these events zoom in on the hands of the experts. Get the tricks they are doing and practice it yourself. Watch the way they strum the guitar and copy some of the chords. Aside from learning, you can also have a major enjoyment just by watching and listening to how these guitar gods play.
Also, get a copy of videos of Woodstock, Live 8, Big Day Out concerts. Get a hold of copies of big concerts that have a number of major bands playing. From these, you will be able to learn more from different artists. Combine their skills with yours and you will have a unique guitar-playing ability that, for sure, you and your audience will enjoy.

One thing I've recognized about guitar chords on reggae songs is that it is mostly composed of flats. C-majors and G-majors in power chords give more effect to the songs. There is also a certain technique in strumming the guitar. You don't necessarily have to strum it, but not exactly pluck it. I notice that it's a cross between the two.
You can notice a reggae song from other genre because of its "tenen-tenen-tenen-tungtang-tungtang" sound. You can sway to it at side by side, mostly by beat of twos.
Here is one of Bob Marley's famous songs "No Woman, No Cry." Try playing it with your guitar at home.
Intro:
D A Bm G
No woman, no cry (4x)
Verse:
D A Bm G
Seh, I remember, when we used to sit
in the government yard in Trenchtown
observing the hypocrites
as they would
mingle with the people we meet
good friends we had,
oh good friends, we lost
along the way, ey
in this great future
you can't forget your past
so dry your tears, i seh
Chorus:
(same chords and lyrics as intro)
Basically, it's the same chords for the whole song. The key is to listen intently on the song. Play it on your stereo over and over and you'll get a hang of it. It's so basic that is why it's so easy. Practice it!

You may not know it but the most frequently asked question about guitars is, "What guitar should I buy?". Let me enlighten you with some basic guitar facts. Guitars may look the same, but they have distinctions in every single part. If you're a beginner and you want to know which guitar fits you, then you have to know the guitars first.
The first guitar that comes to mind is the acoustic guitar. What about acoustic guitars? Well, they're basically one of the most classic and traditional type of guitar. Acoustic guitars are for mellow sounds, they're usually for country, folk, and blues music. But they can also be used in heavy metal. Acoustic guitars produce that hollow sound. They have six strings that are usually of steel, that's the difference with classical guitars because classical guitars have six strings, and three of them are of nylon. Your choice of guitar also greatly depends on the music that you prefer to play. You can't buy a classical guitar and play heavy metal, can you?
Speaking of heavy metal, electric guitars are the best way to go if you're into rocking it out. This guitar has added treats and knobs. This also involves electronics since it's attached to amplifiers and loud speakers to make the sound heavier and more defined. The strings of an electric guitar are easier to strum. Unlike in acoustic guitars, the electric guitar won't give you much of sore thumbs and calluses, like those that you get when lifting heavy weights! Now, if you're into bass-filled music, and you dream of being a lead bass guitar player, the electric guitar is the best pick for you.

When we bought our first acoustic guitar, we weren't really aware of the basic how-to-handle-with care instructions. They weren't really attached to the guitar like regular toys. Thus, our guitar ended up sounding like a croaking frog. You may think that just because your guitar has its own case, means that they're already safe and taken care of. Guitars are like precious cars, they need regular tune-up and polishing.
You can place your guitar in its case when you're done playing it. You can also rest it on a bench or a surface that is properly padded. You can put them on a gig bag, a floor stand, or a wall hanger. Guitars also need regular polishing. Don't you just love it when your guitar is always so shiny and polished? You might want to pick up your guitar every now and then and check on it for scratches or damages. You can loosen up the strings so that, you can clean them of the dusts that they have accumulated. You should also check the tuning of your guitar every once in awhile.
Of course, your guitar strings also need the proper care and check-up. It's not so hard once you have mastered your own guitar strings. The only thing to remember when replacing your guitar strings, is that you should always do it one string at a time. Never run out of patience by plucking them all out at the same time. This may take some time but, at least you're sure that they're all in place in the end. You don't also have to replace all strings at the same time. You only need to replace the strings that are already loose and out of tune. Then everything else goes from there!

Is your child becoming interested in music? Does your observation show that your kid is inclined towards playing a particular musical instrument? Does he or she dream of being a rock star someday?
If you agree with one or more of the questions above, then it might be a good idea to buy your child a Learn to Play Guitar book from the Usborne Music Guide series. Targeted for children with ages eleven years and above, this book by L. Somerville and T. Pells features listed steps and instructions with illustrations on how to play electric, bass and acoustic guitar. Also included in its 64 pages are contemporary playing styles, and tidbits on playing solo guitar or playing in a group. Aside from guitar playing, the book also provides information on musical recording, performing and rehearsing.

Guitar strings take the lion share when it comes to your eating up your guitar budget. Most people try to make their strings last for as long as they are not broken. Many a potentially great guitar player have suffered the wrath of their neighbors because of poor string maintenance. Ideally, strings are replaced every two months. This has nothing to do with the metal being oxidized and the strings rusting; rather it's your body oil. Buying old guitars would probably necessitate you shelling out more money for new strings just for this fact.
But when you do change the strings, first allow an expert to do it for you. Installing new strings might look easy, but taking care that you do not do damage to your new strings is a matter of experience. You might avoid pulling on the string while you are stringing. Some slack is all right, since you can always adjust it later.

There are four common ways to tune the guitar: through a guitar tuner, through a tuning fork, by unisons or by chords.
You need to buy a guitar tuner if you'd like to be able to tune your guitar anywhere or anytime. Even professional guitarists will find it hard to tune their guitars if they are in the middle of a noisy gig. If you cannot buy a tuning guitar, try a tuning fork. It's cheap, quick to use, portable and non-electric. You can choose either an A or an E fork--these are the easiest to tune your guitar with. You need to match the pitch of the fork with the first string (open) or if you cannot do that you can use any instrument such as a keyboard. When tuning in unison you need to take note of the string per fret because this will determine the pitch (You really need to use ear sense on this one. Lastly, if you know well enough the pitch of the chords in your head, you will recognize immediately if they are wrongly-tuned the moment you strum the neck part of the guitar.

So you think you're never going to get past regular strumming, eh? Why not go for that ska sound? It’s really not that hard, but it might do you good if you listen to a few ska records first if only to get a vicarious feel of the strings pulsating high and thin, that trademark sound of true Jamaican ska.
Ska is simply played with upstrokes on the “and” of two and the “and” of four.
A Telecaster guitar from Fender (played through a tube amplifier) can definitely make your sound more authentic, but you’re good getting the same result with a coil tap in your own guitar all the same. You see, humbuckers can be tapped to produce a single coil tone, and this is done by changing to a multi-conductor cable.
After that, you’re all set. Good luck!

When you choose a particular fret and produce a chiming sound by plucking the middle of the string within it you are making a natural harmonic. The usual harmonics are found on the 4th, 7th, 5th and 12th frets. The addition of harmonics incorporate special sound effects and this is what most guitarists use for their subtle finale.
The quickest natural harmonic sound is created on the E of string number six of 12th fret. The key to producing a harmonic (again this is dependent on the perfection of your instrument) is to skim the string above the fret where the harmonic will chime. Keep your finger in such position and pluck the string. Let the harmonic sound linger by removing your finger as soon as it chimes.

Performing in front of several people can be a cause for some stress. There is a fear of not doing well with one's performance. One must also note that the music coming from your guitar may not sound that well if you place a microphone in front of it. Read on for you to learn how to place the microphone correctly for a performance.
First, choose an acceptable microphone. This means that you should a condenser cardioid unidirectional microphone. It will be better if the mic is accompanied by a flat frequency response and a diagram.
Second, place the microphone about 3 inches from the sound hole. You are suggested to move 8 inches backwards if you need to have a louder volume. However, move closer if it's bass that you're looking for.

Okay, all these talk about guitars and every conceivable device that go with them has made me mighty hungry for love. After all, nothing sparks romance better and more pressingly than a song wafting from the guitar. (Well, there's the saxophone, of course, but strings are our thing here.) This song from Björk should be pretty easy for a beginner, a simple ballad that will have you dumbfounded with its stark truth. Definitely worth adding to your playlist.
