If you’ve taken to playing guitar, then you definitely would need to warm up your fingers before playing. There are several benefits to warming up. Even professional players need to do this before practicing songs or playing gigs.
What is “The Worm?”
The Worm is a type of guitar warm up exercise for the fingers. It is a series of progressive notes that you need to play at a certain speed. As you become a better guitar playing, you can gradually increase your playing speed.
Benefits of doing finger warm up exercises
When playing guitar, it is important to be accurate, “fluent,” and fast when it comes to playing different guitar notes. You can only become this with constant practice and through finger warm up exercises. These exercises can increase your hands' dexterity.
Other examples of warm up exercises for fingers
There are other warm up exercises for playing the guitar. Not all of them have nice catchy names like The Worm. Some have plain names, such as Warm Up Number I. All of these warm up exercises are best done with a metronome.

Playing musical instruments like the guitar and the piano is indeed very relaxing and soothing as opposed to the modern digital music stuff. However, playing such instruments may not be that smooth-sailing at times. There are certain fingering problems that may dampen the perfect tune or melody of such instruments. I must admit, it was not really that easy at first, but with patience and determination I was able to learn the basics and essentials of fingering such musical instruments in just a short span of time.
Thanks to a course about finding the correct fingering technique especially for left-handed people like me. This copyrighted course enabled me to play the notes correctly which then lead me to perform a perfect note or tune. In this manner, I was able to develop what we call as bass rhythm by playing a note for the bass then followed straight by a bass wing note. This is done by placing the pointer right to the chord that is to be played and that's it -- I get the correct pattern for such chords at my own fingertips. This great and effective course also taught me certain patterns for various chords. As such, I can play different chords now with so much ease and comfort.

I am indeed very lucky because I get to play the bass guitar quite smoothly using my right hand. This makes me feel soothed and relaxed which cannot be surpassed by the modern digital music. That is why I am very glad that there is a great deal of bass guitar fingering techniques available in the net as well as books about it. Just recently, I chanced upon this modern technique for right handed people like me in so far as playing the bass guitar is concerned.
In playing the bass guitar, I was able to make better attacks by anchoring my thumb on the pickup's top that is near the bridge. Afterwards, I played some notes differentiating one sound from another. This is done by allowing my wrist to freely move while keeping my middle and index fingers quite straight, but never rigid. Then, I was able to produce good-sounding melodies by starting from the strings top instead of starting underneath. Then, after doing a series of playing on various figures alternately, I exchanged the positions of my middle and index fingers. I also utilized a nice metronome for my tempo as well as rhythm. It was very hard at first, but with constant practice, I was able to play this guitar with so much confidence, ease, and comfort.

Precise fingering techniques for acoustic musicians like me are not that easy to achieve. There are times that we encounter what we call notes that are unwanted. These notes are oftentimes regarded by many music enthusiasts as glitches which further attest that computers are more exact than humans. However, the modern digital music cannot surpass the quality of music produced by guitar playing.
Aiming for perfection no matter how elusive it may seem, here are some steps which can help eliminate the so-called notes which are unwanted. Constant practice (and one that is thoughtful) leads to a clean or perfect technique. One great way of doing this is staying relaxed because keys of Yamaha musical instruments do not require pressure, but a simple touch. Then master and discover musical instrument fingerings which are quite idiomatic to a guitar instrument. In this way, I can adopt some techniques on instruments which may be applied to the electrical instruments by doing some sort of deviation. It is essential also to program the generator of the synthesizer in order to develop compatibility with these kinds of electronic instruments. Following these simple steps enabled me to play these instruments from Yamaha with confidence, ease, and comfort.

Guitar freaks and certified music lovers like me gets a lot of satisfaction from hearing good music. At some point of my guitar lessons, I got a lot of tension in practicing my flatpicking skills. You might probably know by now some of the ways in flatpicking your guitar, but I will still reiterate some of the most essential tricks for you to remember.
Before picking, you should always point your pick down towards your guitar. Make it a point not to allow spinning while you are picking and make sure that you maintain a comfortable and firm grip with the pick. You should also try resting your forearm on the guitar for more comfort and stability. Furthermore, when you are practicing your sweep picking, try the alternate and down stroke pick on every note. If you practice with a major C scale, notice that the down stroke pick is when your strumming is going to the floor and an upstroke is when you strum towards the ceiling. Take note that strumming with an upstroke way and down stroke sounds different even if you are using a same chord for strumming. The obvious reason for this is that you are plucking the strings in different order.
If you try and practice these flatpicking exercise, you would now be able to master the correct and proper way of picking your guitar.

I have always been inclined to Scottish and Irish songs because their melodies are really soothing. This is indeed a quality of music which cannot be equaled by modern digital music. That is why, I have started learning some basic styles and techniques in fingerings so that I can play the guitar for these kinds of songs.
It is so great that there is such a useful book from Alan Johnson entitled "An Introduction to Celtic Tunes for the Five-String Banjo", to help me out with these lessons. This is very suitable for a banjo fanatics like me in the lower intermediate level. Scottish and Irish songs usually entail proper technique of my right hand as well as effective styles. This is true especially with the hand's hammer-ons, dual fingering, and pull-offs. This book taught me the accurate and proper approach in order to produce the correct tune and melody with a little basic technique of the other hand. This creative book also features useful tips for playing as well as many tunes which are grouped in polkas, slip jigs, jigs, and reels. Now I have a solid foundation skills of playing these great songs using the banjo. In the long, I shall be able to master the art of playing it with confidence, ease, and comfort.

For me nothings comes close with guitar playing as it soothes and relaxes my spirit that oftentimes paves way for a sound mental health. I must say that the proliferation and popularity of modern digital music does not fare well enough with guitar playing. That is why, it is very essential that I know the basics in fingering techniques that include all notes especially in the fret for the 12th one. Problems in intonations are very common and basic knowledge on their adjustment need not be done by others, but at home.
Fixing or adjusting the intonations means bridge saddles adjustments in such a way that the 12th fret comes in perfect harmony with the harmonic for the said fret. Changing gauges for strings and height or action of the different strings, adjusting truss rod, and other intonation problems require intonation tweaks. The intonation can also be affected by humidity and temperature changes. I can easily adjust such by simply putting on the strings while removing slacks at the pegs for tuning. After I have pulled the strings upward in such a way that it far from the fret, I can have a firm steady pull without breaking the strings. Saddles adjustment comes next until such time that perfect tune is achieved. You see, these basics can be done at home and can spare me from spending bucks for such intonation problems.

Aside from guitar, another classical music instrument that interests me is the accordion. I believe that such great musical instruments play music which cannot be surpassed by modern digital music. It was not easy at first, but in the long run I was able to play this instrument by learning the essential fingering strategies.
I have always believed that music nourishes the spirit and is good for a sound mental health. As such, I kept on leaning how to play the guitar and the accordion until such time that I was able to play these instrument with little difficulty. Thanks to a great book from Robert L. Smith entitled "Fingering for the Accordion," I was able to play this instrument comfortably. This book presented me with the basic patterns of fingerings for this musical instrument and its arpeggios and scales.
In addition, I have also learned about some fingering alternatives which allowed me to experiment with various approaches. This book also offers insights on playing methods for the thirds on chromatic, minor, and major scales. Other helpful and useful features are also included in this book that further make fingering the accordion easier and more comfortable. Now, I exude nothing, but comfort and confidence every time I play this musical instrument.

Playing the guitar, just like many other things in this world, is complicated at times especially if not done with a heart. I indeed had a hard time learning the basic techniques of guitar playing which cannot be surpassed by modern digital music. Proper finger positions can't be done properly. More often than not, I have to really bend some basic rules in order to play the guitar. This is what we call as finger overlap, where in we try to place our finger by squeezing them right at the rear of the so called fret.
I really find the chord A major sort of a shape that is quite antagonizing. You see, it is very difficult to place our three fingers in equal positions near the fret. This calls for overlapping of fingers as our fingers go downwards. This is so because no one would line up finger side after side. Doing this overlap enables me to play the guitar quite perfectly. The same overlapping of fingers takes place when it comes to other chords such as the 5 and 6 strings. I guess this happens not only to me, but to other guitarists as well who believe that music is a relaxing activity that washes away emotional distress. So, it is but just proper to do this kind of finger position for maximum music satisfaction.

Whenever I feel like rocking it out with my guitar, I play the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" tabs. The introduction of this song is an instant guitar classic. The fingerings that Jack White did in this song is very pronounced and very clear. The bass would just blow you away. It's very simple to play and yet the tabs sound so unique. It sounds so White Stripes, dark and cool.
The White Stripes is a two-man band. It's just siblings, Jack White and Meg White. They're beyond cool. This two can rock thousands of people in their concerts. Just connect Jack White's guitar to kick-ass speaker sets and it's surely going to be a riot. What makes them so unique is their unique music, of course. I'm just the greatest White Stripes fan. But, I would not wear Jack White's bizarre duds though. Red pants are just not my thing man.
Anyway, Jack White does good strumming. He is a minimalist player by nature. He goes after the sound that he wants without doing anything complicated or twisted. He's a spontaneous player but he doesn't go overboard. Jack White doesn't really play full chords most of the time. He just thumbs on the strings that are on the lower neck. He likes playing the low sounds. He seldom goes high-pitch. I guess his high-pitched voice is enough. Whenever I hear a minimalist thumb, I instantly think that Jack White is still the best. You can easily learn from Jack White's strumming because it's very simple and uncomplicated.

For me listening to soft music is one of the best relaxing healthy activities that I would love to indulge into. But, one of my greatest aspirations is to play the guitar. That is why I feel envy and admiration to those gifted individuals who can painlessly play the guitar. Guitar playing is conventional yet classic compared with the modern digital music.
Guitar playing is not an easy task. At times, it may pose certain health-related risks. They say the key point to master the art of guitar playing is to memorize by heart the guitar's Triad Power CD. This mode is actually derived from learning the freeboard of the guitar. The basics of fingerings are presented in such a simple manner which can be learned at once when enthusiasts are interested.
Basically, the method commences at the triad itself which contains three notes on the treble strings. When you play intelligently with these notes, you can create different voicing and numerous varieties of the two chords, the major and the minor. In addition, you can apply some flowing tunes and supported by the bass, you have the making of a new solo music artist. It may be hard indeed, but by just doing it wholeheartedly, guitar playing is such a fun, relaxing, and challenging activity.

Learning how to play the guitar may cause some minor skin health problems. The first time you try to learn playing guitar, the tips of your fingers may develop some calluses. You may also experience pain in pressing the guitar strings. All of these are perfectly normal. Your fingertips may eventually lessen their sensitivity as you become more accustomed to fingering the guitar strings. The calluses will actually serve as protection for your fingertips. The calluses are gradually developed as you repeatedly press the hard strings. However, having callused fingertips is not a guarantee that you will be able to play good music.
In playing the guitar, the position and the right amount of pressure of the fingertips is similar to how a golf player handles a golf club. The finger position determines the type of musical chord or note that is being played. The actual sound produced by plucking or strumming the strings will depend on the stings being pressed against the guitar frets. Fast shifts in fingering may be required for note-for-note playing. However, rhythm playing will only require knowledge of guitar chord positions.

Have you ever wondered why the Hawaiian guitar sound is so different? Whenever I hear a Hawaiian tune, I can't help but wonder why their guitar tune sounds so relaxing and merry. They use the same acoustic guitar as any other musician. But, why is it that their music is more laid-back and distinct? Maybe, it's because of their wonderful island, a perfect honeymoon spot, I might add!
I'm a big fan of the Hawaiian music. They're so jolly and upbeat that you can't help but sway to their tunes. I found out that the Hawaiians have a slack key when playing the guitar. Now, you might be wondering what a slack key is and what it means? Well, it's a personal tradition of the Hawaiian guitar players. They call this tradition the "ki ho'alu." It's when the guitar strings are loosened to produce that lingering sound, every time they strum their notes. Sometimes it's on a major chord. Or, it could be on the major chord with the 7th note. Also, they could do it on the 6th note. It all depends on the sound they want to make.
The lingering effects are all different. The sound is based on how long they strum the strings. Sometimes, when they pluck on the strings for a longer time, the effect lasts long. The Hawaiian music is inspired by Hawaii's volcanoes, oceans, animals, waterfalls, mountains, plants, luscious flowers and everything else. That's why they sound so different and unique. It's all in the loose strings and the Hawaiian's passion for their lovely culture.

Admit it. You've done it many times before, sometimes even without knowing it. But don't be alarmed. It's a perfectly natural thing to do.
I'm talking about doing Air Guitar, of course. Now, get you mind out of the gutter and join me while I discuss this humorous, misunderstood hobby. Air guitar, as you might already know, is the act of playing the guitar without actually holding one in your hands. It is often done in synch with music, often of the rock or heavy metal variety. It is done often like a dance, or like the tapping of one's feet to an infectious beat. It is also considered a form of dance.
And there are those who take their dancing too seriously. There are international competitions, if you can believe it, for the best Air Guitar player in the world. Bill and Ted would be so proud.

Having sore fingers is a part of life for those who play the guitar. But that hasn't stopped some people to try and find substitutes for their worn down fingers. Thus man, in his infinite creativity, invented the guitar pick.
Guitar picks usually come in the shape of a triangle, usually with rounded corners. The materials used for picks are many and varied: Some are made of tortoise shell, others of celluloid. Most picks available today are made of plastic or similar material. However picks of wood, stone and metal are also used.
Picks for bass guitars are usually thicker than those for regular guitars. Indeed, some bassists use a small coin instead of an appropriate pick; this marks them not only as innovative but damn economical as well.
